This is the location of palm oil plantations owned by PT. Global Primatama Mandiri (PT.GPM) which is a group of Palma Serasih. The company is currently conducting land clearing of forests orangutan habitat (based on data and maps of the Population and Habitat Viability Assessment by the Indonesian Orangutan Forum). PT GPM is located in Merapun village, Kelay subDistrict, Berau District, East Kalimantan. This company has been doing landclearing since 2017 until now. The location of their permit is located not far from the Lesan River Protection Forest. Through the Berau Regent Decree No. 343 of 2014, PT. GPM get an extension for oil palm plantations covering an area of 7400 hectares. Not only PT. GPM, Palma Serasih has 11 other subsidiaries engaged in palm oil in Indonesia. We understand that oil palm and coal mining are the largest contribution to deforestation in Borneo. Deforestation by companies like this, only will stopped by campaigning against them and forcing them to stop, after that building a conservation area to protect forests, communities and wildlife. Many animals have lost their homes cause of deforestation,that conflicts between farmers and wildlife which ended in the death of wildlife. Deforestation does not only affect wildlife but also humans around forests and people around the world because deforestation can cause global warming. Floods, landslides and fires are proof that deforestation is very bad and companies will continue to destroy forests in the name of economic improvement if nobody stops them, and forces them to change for the better. Hari ini team CAN Borneo mengikuti aktifitas kepala adat Kampung Merasa, Kecamatan Kelay, Kabupaten Berau, Kalimantan Timur yaitu Pak Romeo atau sering di panggil pak Meu. Sudah 2 hari ini team CAN Borneo mengikuti aktifitas beliau dalam mempertahankan lahan masyarakat yang gusur oleh perusahaan pertambangan batu bara. "kita hanya ingin jangan menggusur lahan masyarakat sebelum ada penyelsaian dari kedua belah pihak..." cerita pak Meu ketika bertemu pihak perusahaan dan kepolisian yang mendatangi masyarakat yang lahanya tergusur oleh alat berat. Namun hingga pertemuan berakhir tidak ada kata kesepakatan antara masyarakat dan pihak perusahaan.

Berdasarkan citra satelite setidaknya ada 30.000 hutan mengalami kebakaran di Kalimantan. Kehancuran hutan ini bisa saja lebih luas dari jumlah yang di perkirakan. Ribuan satwa liar kehilangan tempat tinggal dan orang-orang terserang penyakit ISPA. Kini setelah semua pertarungan menyelamatkan hutan dari api maka yang tersisa hanyalah pohon-pohon yang tumbang dan daun-daun yang berguguran. Apa yang dapat dilakukan saat ini adalah menanam kembali hutan yang telah terbakar, menjadikannya hutan kembali dimasa depan. Ini memang tidak mudah tetapi setidaknya ada sebuah proses pengambalian roh hutan itu agar tetap menjadi hutan seperti semua. Yang tidak kalah pentingya adalah menjaga hutan yang ada dimasa musim kemarau berikutnya agar tidak terjadi musibah kebakaran yang menghancurkan lebih banyak hutan dan lahan pertanian. The rain has come and soaked all forests that burns before. The last hotspots are stopped now, this is the end of the fight to stop the fire in East Borneo. This is a happy day for the team and for all wildlife around the forest.Let's rebuild again all forest already burn, that's our commitment and promise to our mother nature. Already 2 week we try stop fire, togther with villager. This time 8 fire spot in Merasa Village, more than 100 people come in this fight to save forest. KIDS AND SECONDHAND COMPUTER Tonight children learn computers, they must be divided by 4 groups because the computer is not enough. We get this second hand computer from the donation of good people who are the care about children's education in the village. They learn from basic about computers, because they really dont know about this. We looking a volunteer who can help us to teach kids here. The demand of palm oil product is so huge, and become a very lucrative business in Indonesia. Palm oil has allured the locals to join the race to compete the destroying the magnificent tropical forest to get a little money in return. They conduct cheap method to banish trees and bushes by lit a fire carelessly. The wild fire engulf the forest and demolish everything. This releases tons of CO2 to the atmosphere. INDONESIA'S RAGING FOREST FIRES Indonesia is deploying thousands of military and police personnel to douse forest fires after declaring an emergency in six provinces on the island of Sumatra and in the province of Kalimantan on Borneo island, VNA reported. According to National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman Agus Wibowo, the number of hot spots in the country as of July 31 has increased, with 124 ‘intense’ fires detected. The government has declared an emergency in the provinces of Riau, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Jambi, South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan, where extensive peatlands are particularly prone to fires, he said. Authorities have brought in 5,679 additional personnel to five of the provinces, drawn from the military, police and the regional disaster mitigation agency. Aircraft that can run water bombing operations are being deployed.

KELAY RIVER TODAY This photo was taken today on the Kelay River, East Kalimantan where a coal mining company conducts mining activities close with the river. This location is on the border between Longlanuk and Merasa village, Berau District.  If you see a forest on the right side of the photo, you should know that the forest will be have same condition with left side in future, because permit of Coal Mining will crossing the river and all heavy equitment will there for making landclearing. Please help us tell Indonesia Goverment about this to save Forest and Kelay River.

WE PLANTING, THEY CUTTING We have seen this thousands of times on this river, they have cut down the forest and dug up the soil to extract coal then take it from upstream to the downstream of the river and end up in the power plant that leads to your houses. On the same river we from downstream of the river to the upper of the river we bring seedling to be planted again hoping the forest can become a home for wildlife and a source of life for the community. Because the mine only gives life as long as the coal is still in the soil, after that only the holes that are not closed can be seen.
